Liuna Local 1059 Collective Agreement

12 Déc Liuna Local 1059 Collective Agreement

Local 1059 not only offers specific benefits to its members, but also improves the working conditions of all workers and returns them to the municipalities in which it operates. Local 1059 helps all workers by lobbying the government to improve labour law. The Local has been active in researching and securing significant changes for all Ontario workers under Bill 148- of the Fair Workplaces, Better Jobs Act, including a high minimum wage, an increased right to protected leave such as family leave, parental and pregnancy leave and critical sick leave, and the recognition of Family Day as a statutory holiday. We also helped put in place measures and regulations during COVID-19 to ensure the safety of workers in the workplace. Liuna Local 1059 is proud to support the London Abused Women`s Centre (LAWC). In early 2020, our team members enjoyed a stimulating keynote-speaker at breakfast with our friends from United Way Elgin Middlesex at the 20th Annual LAWC International Women`s Breakfast Fundraiser. No collective agreement protects workers from the logical consequences of their actions. Unions ensure that the discipline process is consistent with the law and the process in the collective agreement. At the local level 1059, it is our responsibility to ensure that members are treated fairly and that they receive the support they need throughout the discipline process. But we cannot protect them from themselves. Local 1059 is proud to care for its members and loved ones with a comprehensive package of benefits including prescriptions, dental, paramedical, optical, psychological and addiction counseling, and even medical cannabis coverage. In addition, 1,059 local members have access to the MembersHealth 24/7 telemedicine service to contact a doctor within minutes. Liuna Local 1059 LIUNA support staff support the management and day-to-day operations of the union.

The Local recruits new members by reaching out to non-unionized workers to inform them of the benefits, rewards and opportunities of union membership with Local 1059 and encourage them to join them. Non-unionized workers can also organize in the workplace and exercise their right to be represented by a union. In these uncertain economic times, more and more people see job security as the main driver of their careers. The good news is that construction is a thriving industry and that craftsmen are in greater demand than ever. Local 1059 works hard to keep our members active and we refer unemployed members to our signatory employers. No, your union fees go into building and maintaining a strong union. LIUNA Local 1059 is a non-profit organization whose largest expenses are spent on representing its members, including corporate representatives, claims settlement, organization and administrative costs, all of which contribute to the professional negotiation and application of collective agreements.
